REF: MAKATI ICRD, 899-8954

Residents of three Makati barangays have voted to alter their boundaries in a plebiscite held over the weekend.

The Commission on Elections-Makati, in a report submitted by Atty. Juliet C. Villar, Comelec Plebiscite Board of Canvassers (CPBC) Chair, proclaimed as ratified and approved the transfer of parcels of territory of Barangay San Lorenzo to Bangkal and Pio del Pilar.

The statement of votes contained in the report showed that even residents of San Lorenzo voted an overwhelming yes in the plebiscite.

According to the report, 629 out of 1,024 San Lorenzo residents voted yes to redistributing territory to Bangkal. Meanwhile, 638 out of 1,022 voted yes to redistributing territory to Pio del Pilar.

Makati City Secretary Rogelio Marasigan said the boundary alterations will take effect after Congress ratifies the plebiscite for purposes of determining the new share of the three barangays in the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

Marasigan said the city government is looking at District II representative, Atty. Abigail Binay to sponsor the plebiscite in the lower house.

Marasigan said areas along Chino Roces Ave. and Amorsolo St. from Dela Rosa St. will be redistributed among the barangays. He added the redistribution will be done in order to augment the annual revenue of Barangays Pio del Pilar and Bangkal to enable them to deliver more basic services to their constituents.

Revenue sources are mainly concentrated in Barangay San Lorenzo.

“For our barangays to be more progressive we must spread the resources. The end goal is to improve the services we are able to give Makati’s constituents,” Marasigan said.

The plebiscite was conducted pursuant to City Ordinance 2008-001 authored by Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado and all members of the City Council.
