KIDNAP, RAPE OF ANTI-DRUG AGENT’S DAUGHTER REVEALS TRUE STATE OF MRS ARROYO’S WAR VS DRUGS – BINAY

Makati Mayor and United Opposition (UNO) president Jejomar C. Binay today said the reported kidnapping and rape of a daughter of an anti-drug agent is a disturbing testimony of the true state of Mrs. Arroyo’s war against drugs.

The opposition leader pressed Mrs. Arroyo, who made herself anti-drug czar in January, to reveal the state of her administration’s war on drugs. He also questioned her determination rid the country of drug syndicates.

“The public deserves a full accounting of how the anti-drug czar is conducting the war on drugs. When the families of anti-drug agents are not safe, what does that say of the war on drugs? And what does it say about the leadership of the anti-drug czar?,” he said.

Binay issued the statement, after reports that suspected drug syndicates had kidnapped and raped the daughter on an anti-drug agent.

Mrs. Arroyo, when told that a daughter of an anti-drug agent had been kidnapped and raped, was reportedly provoked into saying ‘this is war.’”

But the opposition leader said Mrs. Arroyo named herself anti-drug czar on January 13 in the wake of the ‘Alabang Boys’ controversy.

“Mrs. Arroyo was also reported then as declaring a war against drugs. So what has happened to Mrs. Arroyo’s war?,” he asked.

“If this heinous incident had happened with somebody else overseeing the war against drugs, Mrs. Arroyo would probably display her famous temper and berate the official. But since she is the drug czar, does that mean she is beyond scolding for failing to fulfill her job description? It seems that a second declaration of war will suffice,” he added.
