BINAY ORDERS MAKATI POLICE TO INCREASE POLICE VISIBILITY IN CITY

Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay today instructed Makati Police Chief Sr. Supt. Cedrick Train to increase police visibility and tighten security in the city in view of the recent bombing at the Office of the Ombudsman.

Binay said the city government is taking precautionary measures especially since Makati is the economic center of the country.

“Top corporations and business establishments are situated here in Makati . The city government maintains a proactive stance in keeping the peace and ensuring the safety of its constituents,” Binay said.

Train said the Makati Police will be deploying additional police officers in the Central Business District and the adjacent areas. He said police will be stationed in malls, hotels and other areas frequented by the public.

“We will deploy more uniformed and plain clothes personnel in key areas of the city. We will be vigilant to ensure the security of the people of Makati ,” Train said.

Binay has likewise instructed the Department of Public Safety to coordinate with the Makati Police. The mayor also called on the private sector to assist the city government in boosting security.

“I am asking the private sector to help the city by beefing up their security in the buildings and malls. They should also closely coordinate with the Makati Police,” Binay said.

Binay said the public and private sectors could contact the Makati Police through the Makati Command Center by dialing 168.

They could also call for assistance through the following numbers: 870-1920, 870-1923, 870-1926, 870-1929, 870-1932, 870-1935, 870-1955, 870-1950, 870-1951 and 899-8879.

“We urge all of Makati ’s constituents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious characters or activities. Let us help each other keep Makati safe and peaceful,” Binay said.

Earlier, police said a bomb was discovered at the Department of Agriculture (DA) a day after a bomb exploded at the Ombudsman. A mysterious package was also found in front of a condominium building along Katipunan Avenue , which is just across the Ateneo de Manila campus.
